Prodigal Expenditure From Exchequer for Building a Governments Tainted Image.
We have been witnessing a lot of sculptures of deceased political leaders all around our state and yet another trend emerging in India is to give advertisements in News Papers, Television Channels, Magazines, Internet and all possible mediums, claiming success of certain projects implemented by the government. Have we ever thought of the abundant amount of prodigal expenditure from our exchequer?
I got such an insight in light of the first anniversary celebrations of the Kerala government, happening all around the state and state capital in particular. They had put ads in every news papers publishing from Kerala both in English and regional language . The advertisements were given under the name of Information and Public Relations department of Kerala Government.
Kerala as we all know is a state of literacy and well known for its high amount of media exposure. The National Family Health Survey, conducted in 2007 ranked Kerala as a state with the highest media exposure in India. People of Kerala is well aware of the developmental schemes announced and going to be announce in near future. As this is the situation why government have to spend a large amount of tax payers money, for the sake of their political gaining?
The eyes of politicians are always focused on power, here also by doing bogus propagation the eyes of government rests in the parliament election with in two years. If we go through this self appreciated advertisements, we will get a feeling that we are living in a safe heaven of luxury. Today's ad they have included the Cochin metro rail project, Vizhinjam harbor and all the dream projects of Kerala. The lead picture shows CM giving appointment for Poornachandran a man who lost his palm in a bomb blast. the slogan propelled in the ad is development and care. the ad even claim that UNO states Kerala government is a role model for other world administrations Please do check whats the present status of all these projects.
Today dated 4th of June 2012, while Ommen Chandy regime completes its one year tenure they have made widespread arrangements to include all spheres of life under the ambit of their publicity campaign. The money spend for this could be utilized for some other purposes which would be beneficial for the enhancement of downtrodden poor plight of people in Kerala. This is not a case stands alone with the present regime, all the past governments including the proletarian government did the same and will do the same unless their arouse some voices against this.
During the last election held in UttarPradesh, the state election commission asked the Mayavati led BSP government to wrap all the sculptures of their election symbol elephant and sculptures of herself, in which the BSP supporters and workers raised strong protest. These all were constructed using public fund.
The only justification the authorities can put in is "it is the policy of the information and public relations department" and no one can stop people from their right to know about the government schemes. but the pertinent question is why spending from government exchequer as the benefit goes to the political parties?
