Kottayam a safe haven for fraud’s?

Kottayam, home for top class erudite and mainstream news papers, because of this peculiarity branded as the land of letters is now ,sorry to say, trapped in the widen nets of deceptive people. The sophisticated frauds from outside the city limits, found the naive prey for them among the traditionally acclaimed “Achayans” from Kottayam.

Tuesday police officers apprehended two middle aged people from the heart of city. They were trying to loot money from a youth, who is a daily wager looking for a permanent job, assuring  to help him fulfill his long awaited dream. These people introduced themselves as members as personal staff of Chief Minister Omen Chandy. They allegedly demanded for a sum of four lakh rupees from this youngster. One of his friends sniffed something fishy and informed police. This incident is last in the series of loot happening in the city for last couple of weeks.

Last day a man arrested here in accordance with a complaint lodged by a lady doctor. In her complaint she stated that she fall victim for a man introduced himself as an IAS officer belonging to the Delhi cadre and right now working in Ernakulum complying with the special task assigned to him. He bagged a huge sum of 30 lakh in cash and a multi utility car Innova. This man hailing from Kollam, a neighboring district to Kottayam, has introduced himself as Surya Narayana Varma, a member of the Trivandrum royal family.

From my preliminary investigation came to know that this lady doctor is in her 60+. The culprit said to police that he prepared a plot and she fall into the pit that he dig for her. He also said that they were in constant touch with each other over phone. What shocked me is, one of the police officers revelations (who wish to be anonymous) that they were very close to each other and were in frequent contact with each other in a mutual understanding. As per the culprit’s statement in police records, she demanded back her money and car, once he said that he is getting married to some other women.
On the day before this incident east police arrested two other youth who were educational consultants who had an office at kalathilpady, Kottayam. They cheated students and their parents assuring them a seat for some professional course without paying money. What they wanted was the certificates of students who passed the plus two examinations. These frauds used these certificates of the student’s to loot money from the college management as a commission for the admission. They submit the same certificates copy to different colleges. In a raid conducted in their office at kalathilpady police recovered certificates of 28 students and some important documents which directly connect with the whole plot of plunder. Further investigation will portray the amount of money amassed by these youngsters who aged around 24.The list is long, why Kottayam people is falling prey to them, is a question that each and every one including me should contemplate.

In my opinion this all happens either of greed or of searching for shortcuts!!
No one have time to wait till there chance come, everyone wish to finish off with the task somehow, even if the selected path is erratic. The above mentioned incidents clearly describe that erratic offensive and it will lead to dismal.
